This gorgeous Shakespeare Club & First Baptist Church Pasadena Wedding was a ton of fun!!! We started off at the Shakespeare Club in Pasadena for Kevin & Margaret’s traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony. One of the most wonderful things about being wedding photographers is that we get the opportunity to see so many different rituals & cultures. The Chinese Tea ceremony is traditionally the bride’s symbolic introduction to the groom’s family. It is a very sacred and private ceremony where the Bride and Groom kneel before their parents and elders (including grandparents, aunts & uncles, siblings, etc) and serve them tea in order to pay respect and give thanks. In return, each of their family members presents the couple with gifts of lucky red envelopes or jewelry. Seeing all the love in the room and sincere mutual respect was very profound and humbling! It was truly amazing seeing how many people had touched their lives in such positive, supportive ways. The details & gorgeous colors of their traditional Chinese attire & tea service were exquisite!
After the Tea Ceremony, we all went over to the First Baptist Church for the wedding ceremony. It is a beautiful church with huge vaulted ceilings, stained glass windows, and a nearly four story tall organ! Needless to say, it was a beautiful ceremony, but the highlight was after their kiss when Kevin & Margaret grabbed microphones and sang a romantic duet!! Who even does that?!? Amazing!!! :)
Since Pasadena City Hall is one block away, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to take the bridal party over for some epic shots in front of the nearly century old building! In addition, we went to some of our other favorite spots around Pasadena to shoot romantic portraits with the couple. The Shakespeare Club’s courtyard is such a lovely place for an outdoor reception, and the weather was just perfect!! After dinner, everyone retired to one of the indoor rooms for more singing, dancing and toasts.
